Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy

Maureen S. Bethea is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). She is a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. Maureen completed her Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Virginia Tech University. She provides therapy to individuals, couples, families, and adolescents who are experiencing problems related to anxiety, depression, trauma, marital/relationship distress, affairs, life adjustment, parenting, family conflict, school/job issues, and gender and sexuality issues.

Counseling Experience

Maureen is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is a powerful therapeutic model that has been shown to ease distress associated with PTSD, mood issues, relationship issues, and simple or complex trauma. EMDR has been seen to help clients develop positive resources as well significantly improve client's functioning by working through difficult memories or past experiences. Maureen has worked with adolescent females in residential care that have experienced sexual and physical abuse, neglect, truancy, running away and were involved in the court system. She provided individual, family, and group treatment to the adolescents and their families using a range of systemic and expressive approaches. Maureen's research background and clinical interests includes individuals experiencing gender and sexuality issues.
